BABYMOON

WHAT IS A BABYMOON?

A relaxing or romantic vacation taken by parents-to-be before their baby is born.

WHY TAKE A BABYMOON?

The reasons why a babymoon is beneficial for all couples are simple but so important: Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, your free time is about to get cut down. Way down. A babymoon is a great opportunity to slow down, reconnect and make new memories as a couple. Use your babymoon to sleep in, relax and indulge in self-care before your focus shifts to midnight feedings and diaper changes.

When you are a couple expecting your first baby everyone’s first advice is: spend as much quality time together as you can. It’s true that once the baby arrives you will be focused on new life and it won’t be just the two of you for a while If you already are a parent, you already fully understand the value of spending a long weekend or a week-long vacation with your partner to make plans are relax in a beautiful setting.

WHAT IS THE SAFEST TIME TO TRAVEL?

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the safest time for a pregnant woman to travel is during the second trimester (18 through 24 weeks).

Up to how many weeks before giving birth is it allowed to fly?

After 28 weeks, most airlines require a letter from your doctor. There are many different restrictions per airline. We suggest that you check if the airliner you are using has specific restrictions for pregnant women or see our chart below.

Tips during the flight?

  • wear flat and comfortable shoes
•place a pillow against the lower back to ease strain
•try to walk every two hours, this will help combat swelling and discomfort
•keep hydrated and avoid coffee and tea. Drink plenty of water, at least one liter for every two hours in flight
•keep your seatbelt low around your hips, not around your abdomen

Afripride Tours and Events prides itself in organizing both individual and group babymoons filled with activities that improve the health and wellbeing of both the mother and the unborn baby. After all, happy, loving parents often make for a more relaxed baby so think of your babymoon as a gift for your baby as well—once your little one is on the scene you’ll be glad you invested in your relationship as a couple.

Here are great babymoon ideas & vacation packages which let you hang out on a beach, get pampered at the spa and re-connect in nature while expecting your new addition.

A Beach Lover’s Babymoon.

Many moms-to-be opt to hit (or rather, recline gently upon) the beach for their pre-baby vacation.

And the beach can be a great choice – the water can be so soothing, providing support for your bump whilst easing those niggling aches and pains.

What’s more, the benefits of fresh air and the warming sun (which encourages your skin to produce health-promoting vitamin D) can really leave you feeling uplifted and rejuvenated.

Do remember, though, that your skin is particularly sensitive to the sun during pregnancy, so be sure to slather on that sunscreen. It’s also VERY important to stay hydrated in the sun by drinking plenty of water, and to avoid becoming too hot, which may leave you feeling dizzy, light-headed or just plain uncomfortable!

An Overseas Babymoon.

There’s no reason not to enjoy a baby moon abroad, provided you’re at a stage of your pregnancy that doesn’t bar you from international travel. This varies from airline to airline, but most international airlines require you to complete your travel somewhere between your 32nd and 35th week.

It is, of course, important to speak to your doctor before planning a baby moon overseas, in part to arrange for a letter permitting you to travel and also to discuss whether or not vaccinations or other special precautions are needed for your chosen destination.

An overseas babymoon can be very special, providing you a real opportunity to “get away from it all” with your partner. And – let’s face it – traveling abroad will not be quite so easy once your new little addition has arrived!

A Soothing Spa Babymoon.

Babymoons are all about being pampered – and what better way to pamper yourself than by enjoying a restful spa vacation?

Most spas will not offer massage treatments during your first trimester, but after that you can take advantage of a wonderfully relaxing pre-natal massage, specially designed to soothe away the aches and pains of pregnancy.

Many moms-to-be also enjoy extra treatments such as manicures, pedicures and facials at this time, which really leave you feeling revitalized and beautiful.

Recognizing the advantages of spa treatments for expectant moms, many hotels and resorts include them as part of their babymoon package

A Calming Babymoon Cruise.

It IS possible to take a cruise whilst pregnant, but you are limited by the stage of your pregnancy – many cruise lines will not take women past 24 weeks of pregnancy because they do not have the facilities to deal with any complications.

You may also want to avoid taking a cruise during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, when you are more likely to feel nauseous.

If the timing is right, however, a cruise can be a wonderful ‘last getaway’, with plenty of opportunity to relax, enjoy each other… and enjoy lots of good food!
